Vance County Greenways

The Kerr Lake State Recreation Area contains a number of signature trails for Vance County. The Kerr Lake Track Trail is located at Satterwhite Point Park. The trail originates at the park office and visitor center and winds through a mix of hardwoods and pine forests along the edge of Kerr Lake. The trail features interpretive signs and covers 1.5 miles round trip. Visitors can pick up trail diagrams at the park office. The Big Poplar Trail, also located at Satterwhite Point Park, is a .75 mile trail (one way) that lies adjacent to the J. C. Cooper Campground. The Henderson/Vance Walking Trail was established in 2010 by the Henderson/Vance Trail Blazers, a committee of city and county employees. Funding was made available by Eat Smart Move More NC. Located in the historic district of downtown Henderson, the trail is segmented into three half-miles routes that pass by numerous historically significant buildings, mostly from the 18th and 19th centuries. Visitors can view various types of construction styles and interesting architecture. Pictured below is the route in front of the Henry A. Dennis Building, originally designed as a U.S. Post Office in 1911.
