Moore County
Moore County Greenways
Moore County does not have an adopted greenways and trails master plan. The County is home to more than twenty municipal public parks and a state park, offering a variety of outdoor resources including playgrounds, walking trails, sports courts and fields, lakes, picnic shelters, and more. The Town of Southern Pines and the Village of Pinehurst have developed greenway system that together are more than 20 miles where you can walk or run to your heart’s content. The Bear Creek Trail System in the Town of Robbins has over 13 miles of trails through natural terrain. One trail, the 3.75-mile Bear Creek Trail Loop, has been labeled as “difficult” in intensity for those wanting a more challenging hike. Weymouth Woods Sandhills Nature Preserve is a 900-acre state park in Southern Pines that is home to the oldest known living longleaf pine tree dating back to 1548. This park has almost 5 miles of hiking trails through pristine longleaf pine and wiregrass forest, as well as an equestrian trail, where unique flora and fauna can be observed. The Nicks Creek Greenway is one of the signature trails in Moore County. This popular 1.8-mile trail extends through a peaceful pine forest from the Forest Creek Trail to Reservoir Park. Parking is available at Foxcroft Road, off NC Highway 22.
